Loosing the Cork

 July 11, 2003

This dream consisted of one line:

" 2 vessels; one seen and one unseen."

I have been having
dreams about the number two for many years and ceramic
pieces such as this often occur.

21 and Able

August 30, 2002

This dream consisted of a full pie shaped face moving its lips and eyes. I believe the dream's title (21 and Able) was an auditory message, because it came out of the blue while naming. There was no thought about converting something into a dream title from the dream. It just arrived in thought on its own.

This woodfired (cone 10) porcelain piece is actually not a dream "illustration", but a combination of three visual elements. I have been writing haiku for five years and this is my visual equivalent. Instead of three lines there are three visual parts. One is from the pie man dream, only making it a hot "pasty" form was easier than a full pie and is a local reference. Two is a seasonal element taken from my surroundings (I found a gorgeous black pupa earlier in the day and hung one from the pencil tip). And the third element came from I do not know where. The carpenter's pencil came to the pie man's mouth because carpenter's pencils are beautiful, everyday and exotic.
