June 26, 2005 THE KESTREL AND THE BOY I was preparing to go on a bus tour with a number of people I didn't know (last night I took a boat tour of SF Bay with many people from the dream conference, most of whom I didn't know). The bus was open and seemed to consist of a kind of gridwork of metal tubing. As the bus was starting out, I noticed that on the sidewalk across the street there was a kestrel standing, larger than in real life (more the size of a red-winged hawk). A young boy was standing in front of it, reaching toward it, and I was afraid that he would either be bitten by the bird or that it would be spooked and fly off. However, it seemed he was able to touch it gently and it did not fly away. |
